“ Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you, with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.”
(Eph. 4:25-27)
Can any right thinking individual not feel sick, when they see our nation devolving in corruption and immorality? Politicians lie to get votes. Businessmen lie and cheat to make deals. Our public educational system is engulfed by secular humanism. The onslaught of Islamic militants appears to succeed in their godless jihad around the world. Our nation seems to be satisfied to forsake its opportunity to provide leadership in the world; and political apathy seems to be a cancer eating at our national foundations. But is the thing that bothers me the most?
It appears to me that the main reason why this nation is crumbling is that the Evangelical Church has surrendered in the spiritual battle and has given the devil, Satan and his minions, free reign to destroy this nation. And I place the blame squarely on the spiritual leadership in the Evangelical Church. Preachers won’t preach against the holocaust of abortion – some of their members have joined the abortion industry that has resulted in the murder of over 60 million of our unborn children.
Now the abortion providers are selling the organs of aborted babies. Pastors won’t preach the whole counsel of God for fear of losing members who steal God’s tithe and are afraid to witness to their lost friends and associates.
I am righteously angry at the cowardice of many Evangelical pastors. They have turned the Sheepfold of Christ’s body into a social mall offering programs and platitudes to satisfy the “needs” of their parishioners. Jesus preached on hell more than anyone recorded in the Bible; however; most pastors won’t be able to tell you the last time they preached on the subject. After all, it might get someone upset at the harshness of God’s judgment. The idea of the Cross of Christ appears offensive to some of the unregenerate in the congregation. Isn’t it better to talk about relationships and being nice people? The abandonment of theology (the study of God found in the Bible) and the embrace of our culture’s entertainment styles have reduced many Evangelical churches to an insipid presentation of feel good psychology that leaves the unsaved lost and believers satisfied with their carnality and lethargy.
I try to forget my anger at night; but somehow, it grips me again in the morning. I urge you to pray for a spiritual revival in the hearts and lives of our pastors. In our current condition, this nation will not be saved from God’s judgment. His righteous anger has been unleashed and He is using the ungodly to punish His people. With the embrace of relativism and compromise with the world, Christians can expect persecution, as our nation devolves in moral and spiritual stagnation.
“Awake to righteousness and stop sinning; for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame…Awake, sleeper, and rise from the dead; and Christ shall give you light.”
(I Cor. 15:34, Eph. 5:14)
